The small blood vessels i.e capillaries in or under\nthe skin break and some blood escape from them and forms a bruise. Bruising results from the microscopic\ntears in the blood vessels. In athletes, it may also occur from direct trauma.<\/li><li>Random or unexplained bruises that occur without any\nreason may result from blood-thinning medicines <\/li><li>Bruises occur frequently in elder people because the\nskin becomes thin and the tissues that support the blood vessels become more\nfragile.<\/li><li>Bruises over the hands and feet occur when the skin is\nthin and if it is damaged by sun exposure.<\/li><li>It occurs more commonly due to the deficiency of\nvitamin C (ascorbic acid)<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What are\nthe Signs and Symptoms of Bruises?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>In the initial stage, the bruise may be reddish in color and within a few hours, it turns blue or dark purple in color. After a few days when the healing process starts, it turns yellow or green in color.<\/li><li>Sometimes these are painful and the pain goes away as the color fades.<\/li><li>Risk of infection is little<\/li><li>There may be tenderness and itching<\/li><li>If the bruise occurs on the head then the person may experience blackouts, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.planetayurveda.com\/library\/nausea\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"nausea (opens in a new tab)\">nausea<\/a>, vomiting, etc.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Healing Time and its Color According to the Healing Process<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>It takes a few weeks for bruises to disappear completely. The color transition looks like<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><strong>Red<\/strong>: Following the trauma, there will\nbe a red mark that becomes more apparent.<\/li><li><strong>Purple, blue or black<\/strong>: within\nthe 24 hours of trauma, it turns blue, dark purple or black in color.<\/li><li><strong>Yellow<\/strong>: After 2 to 3 days when the body\nstarts reabsorbing the blood then the bruise turns into yellow colour.<\/li><li><strong>Light Brown<\/strong>: At the 10th or 11th day, the\nbruise fades into\nlight brown color and then disappears completely.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>How a Bruise\ncan be Diagnosed?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The bruises can be diagnosed easily on the clinical basis but to evaluate the reason some investigations may be required. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>It the bruises occur for no reason then the doctor may\nadvise for a blood test as to look for a bleeding-related disorder.<\/li><li>Bruises under the various stages of healing may alert\na doctor to the possibility of physical abuse.<\/li><li>If there is any swelling along with bruise then the doctor can get an x-ray\nreport of the affected area to make sure that there are no broken bones.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What are\nthe Complications of Bruises?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Most of the bruises get healed without any problem. If the\nbruise is very large and the body may have trouble getting the blood flow back\nto the area, then it causes avascular\nnecrosis and may lead to the death of the affected part.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Home Remedies for Bruises:<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Here are some effective home remedies to get rid of the\ndiscoloration of bruising:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><strong>Cold Compression:<\/strong> An ice\npack or a bag of frozen peas should be applied on the affected area for 20 to\n25 minutes, after every one hour in order to speed up the healing process as it reduces swelling by\nconstricting blood\nvessels in response to the cold. Don\u2019t apply it directly. Always wrap the ice in a towel.<\/li><li><strong>Elevation\nof the Affected Part:<\/strong> If the bruise occurs on the larger area of the foot\nor the leg, the leg should be kept elevated during the first 24 hours after the\ninjury.<\/li><li><strong>Epsom Salt:<\/strong> Take a\nbath with added Epsom salt as\nit relaxes the muscles and helps in reducing the pain as well as\nswelling associated with the bruises.<\/li><li><strong>Pineapple:<\/strong> Pineapples\ncontain an enzyme called bromelain which is a natural anti-inflammatory agent that helps to\ndissolve the blood clots and reduces the swelling associated with the bruises.<\/li><li><strong>Tea Bags:<\/strong> Tea\ncontains tannins\nthat help in constricting the blood vessels. Apply Green tea or black tea bags\ndirectly on the bruises which help to reduce the discoloration from bruising.<\/li><li><strong>Aloe Vera:<\/strong> Aloe Vera\nis well known for its wound healing properties that speed up the wound healing\nprocess.
