Introduction<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Scleroderma<\/a> is an autoimmune disorder which affects the body in multi-system level and may bring changes in the skin, blood vessels, muscles, and internal organs. It can be either localized to the skin or gets spread to internal organs. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Scleroderma which is also known as crest syndrome or systemic sclerosis is an autoimmune disorder in which the connective tissues of the body are affected and is of unknown etiology. As the name indicates \u2013 sclero + derma \u2013 hardening of the skin is the main manifestation of the disease. As a result of hyperactivation of the immune system, the inner lining of the tiny blood vessels are damaged and the tissues are injured. This leads to fibrosis (scar tissue formation) and accumulation of collagen, making the skin and the lining of internal organs (especially kidney) thick and firm. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Females are more susceptible to scleroderma than males. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Scleroderma \u2013 Ayurvedic Approach<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

According to the Ayurvedic viewpoint, vitiation of Vata, P<\/a>itta<\/a><\/g> ,<\/g> and rakta<\/g> are the major events in scleroderma. Vitiation of Vata, Pitta, and Kapha due to intake<\/g> of apthya<\/g> aahar<\/g> and vihar (improper diet and lifestyle) can vitiate simultaneously, which can in turn<\/g> disrupt twak<\/g>, ambhu<\/g>, rakta<\/g> dhatu<\/g> and mamsa<\/g> dhatu<\/g> (body tissues) <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vata gets aggravated starts to move in wrong directions and gets obstructed by rakta<\/g> and thus vitiate rakta<\/g> (blood) with pitta dosha. Vitiated Vata and rakta<\/g> residing in skin and muscles, start first as uttana<\/g> type and then in course of time spreads to all tissues. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Scleroderma<\/a> symptoms begin with inflammatory signs (mainly due to aggravated pitta) and later lead to tightening or hardening of the skin (due to aggravated vata<\/g>). <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Scleroderma is sometimes referred to as crest syndrome when it is accompanied with the following issues.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n
