Central retinal artery occlusion<\/a> is a condition in which vessel that carries blood to the eyes get blocked. It is an ocular emergency which can even result in blindness due to the lack of oxygen in the retina. This is a painless condition which occurs suddenly. Patient of CRAO represents acute, profound, monocular visual loss without pain. Typically, the patient is not even able to count fingers or maybe even worse. It is a similar condition to a stroke which is also treated in a similar way. The main aim of the treatment is first of all the management of the condition and then to identify the site of vascular occlusion and prevent further incidences in the future. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

CRAO is caused due to the occlusion of the artery by an embolus or thrombus. According to Ayurveda, these blood clots are formed due to the imbalance of Pitta dosha<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

What can be the Causes of Central Retinal Artery Occlusion?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

CRAO is caused due to the retinal artery occlusion usually by a thrombus, i.e. blood clot or an embolus, i.e. blood flow blocking small piece of cholesterol. This occlusion may be temporary if the blockage breaks up and blood flow is restored or it may be permanent. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

What are the Sign and Symptoms of Central Retinal Artery Occlusion?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Usually, the typical symptom is a sudden painless loss of vision in one of the eyes. The extent of vision loss is determined by the area of the retina affected by the loss of blood supply. The patient may also have acute blurring of vision in one of the eyes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Presence of \u2018Cherry Red spot\u2019 found in dilated eye examination is a typical diagnostic sign in this condition. In this Retina is seen pale in color due to lack of blood supply with the red macula in between. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    How Can be<\/g> Central Retinal Artery Occlusion?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    Conventional treatment for this condition does not have any proven treatment yet. Some of the methods used for the treatment are thrombolytic therapy which involves clot-busting drugs. But this treatment has not shown to be very effective. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
