What is white discharge?

It is a well-known fact that vaginal discharge is an unpleasant sight, the milky white discharge happens to lots of females and mostly it is normal. Vaginal discharge is the vagina’s mucus that flushes out the dead cells and bacteria from the vagina and keeps its normal health by saving it from many types of infections.  The clear discharge helps in cleaning, lubricating and keeps the vagina safe from bacterial cells. Usually it happens, if the lady is about to go for menstrual cycles or right after the periods. The color and smell is different in every lady. The discharge happens when the lady is on the brink of having her first periods or she gets erotic for having sex or if she is ovulating.

The smell changes if she is not eating hygienic food, especially when she gets pregnant. There are many reasons for white discharge.

Usual Reasons for White Discharge:

• Vagina walls thicken during pregnancy, which begins the moment they become pregnant. The cells multiply on the walls of the vagina and white discharge begins.
• This discharge keeps happening regularly during pregnancy and require no treatment. But if the smell becomes stinky and feel itching sensation or burning in the vagina, it means she has been infected by a fungus or bacteria. Rush to your doctor and tell him/her about what you are feeling. Get diagnosed and better be sure.

What is the main reason for white discharge?

• Mostly the vaginal discharge is normal and regular happenings in the reproductive system.
• The glands inside the vagina and cervix, produce fluids that flushes out the dead cells and bacteria, which help it in keeping the vagina clean and safe from any infection coming and striking.
• Their types are different while discharging, these come out in different colors. If the discharge is of white color, it is indicating an infection has taken place.
• It can be green or yellow in color, thick & bulky in regularity and has a very stinky odor.
• The discharge can become heavier, when you are discharging the ovules from the ovary, breast feeding and feeling aphrodisiac (erotic). It can smell a little unusual when you get pregnant. Minor changes don’t sound an alarm.
• When you get infected by a bacteria or a yeast, abnormal discharge takes place. If you find something fishy about that discharge or the odor is not the usual, better pay a visit to your doctor and get the diagnosis done.
• If you are infected better ask the doctor to treat you in an effective manner.
• The discharge is about many different types, depending on their color and consistency. Usually these are normal, but some are found under infection that needs treatment.

What is the reason for the white vaginal discharge?

There are many reasons for the white, thick & stinky discharge. We will mention some like

Bacterial vaginosis:

• It is an infection caused by the bacteria, which happens to the females who either are pregnant or if they are having unprotected sex with multiple partners.
• If the discharge comes just before your periods, it’s a clear sign that you are going to miss your periods because you have become pregnant.
• If the discharge happens during pregnancy, it becomes hard to tell that it is normal or infected. If it is infected, it will be creamier or thicker.

Birth control pills:

• Birth control pills are responsible for altering your hormone level, which can lead to additional discharge.
• Don’t panic this is a mere side effect of birth control pills.

Diabetes:

• If you have diabetes, which raises your glucose level, frequent urination is the effect. Also makes your discharge yellowish.

Chlamydia or gonorrhea (STD) and sexually transmitted infections:

• All of them increase the discharge. When you are infected with chlamydia or gonorrhea the discharge will be more yellowish like pus. Mostly, these STI’s don’t show any symptoms.
• Trichomonas does show some symptoms, including the color becoming greenish or yellowish, itching and smell like a dead fish.

Relvic inflammatory disease (PID)

• Many different kinds of bacteria are responsible for causing PID. The bacteria that cause sexually transmitted disease like chlamydia and gonorrhea, can play a role in producing PID.
• Usually the bacteria enter the vagina and begins infection. Slowly & slowly this infection spreads to the whole pelvic area.
• Can become extremely dangerous when the infection spreads to your blood, can prove to be fatal if ignored. The sooner you visit your doctor, the better it will be.

 Yeast infections(candidiasis)

• Yeast infection can happen without any cause. Still, when you use anti-biotics, they make you more prone to yeast infection and these strike just before you are about to have periods cycle. It will be thick & white, appearing just like cottage cheese. Yeast infection often causes itching and burning in your vagina & vulva.

Trichomoniasis:

• It is caused by a parasitic infection typically contracted and caused while having unprotected sex. It causes the irritation, painful urination & while doing a sexual intercourse and the discharge has a stinky smell. It might also cause redness around your genitals. You can reduce this infection by using a condom, whenever you want to have sex.

Vagnitis, irritation in and around vagina:

• Cervix glands usually produce clear mucus. These secretions can turn yellow when come in contact with air. During pregnancy your hormone level changes, bringing change in the amount of mucus production. Many types of infections cause this itching and burning in your vagina and the surrounding area. The amount changes its color too, making it get brown or green.
• Normal bacteria that remain in the vagina overgrows, causing a gray discharge, with a fishy odor. This is called bacterial vaginosis (BV). BV doesn’t spread through sexual contact.

Vaginal Atrophy:

• When the walls of vagina shrinks and get dry during menopause is caused by the reduction in estrogen levels, which disturbs the vagina’s normal balance.
• When menopause happens, the vaginal tissues don’t get exposed to the estrogen and gets dry and weak, making them more prone to get some infection.
• Very small cuts & tears might appear in the vaginal walls, causing a bloody discharge.
• The vaginal discharge does stink like a fish smell, often is thin, but can be white, yellowish, greenish or sometimes with a tinge of blood.
