What is Heart Disease?

Heart disease is a condition in which there is an involvement of blocked or narrow blood vessels that can lead to heart attack, chest pain or stroke. It is also referred to as “cardiovascular disease”. Some other heart-related conditions  that affect the heart’s muscle, rhythm or valves are considered to as different forms of heart disease. Diseases that come under  heart disorders include heart rhythm problems, coronary heart disease, and congenital heart defects.

Heart disease is correlated with hridya rog. It can be grouped as pitta, vata or Kapha or a combination of these doshas or it can arise as a complication called as krimija hridya roga.

Some factors that cause hridya roga are vishmashana (Irregular dietary habits), abhighata (any physical or emotional trauma), atikarshana (excessive weakness due to any chronic disorder) etc.

Several causes that can lead to heart disease are:

  • Junk food
  • History of preeclampsia during pregnancy

Symptoms may depend on which condition that is  effects  an individual:

  • Irregular heartbeat

  • Swelling over feet or ankles

Natural Remedies for Heart Disease

Garlic

Garlic is a beneficial herb which is useful in conditions such as high blood pressure, coronary artery disease, and high cholesterol. This herb improves the blood circulation and has an antithrombotic and anti-platelet action that interferes the binding of platelets that results in the formation of blood clots. It slows down the development of atherosclerosis or the hardening of arteries.

Steps to follow:

  1. Eat one to two freshly crushed garlic cloves daily. If the cloves are strong then drink a glass of milk after eating.

Arjuna

Arjuna is an effective Ayurvedic herb useful in heart conditions. This herb is considered as a natural cardio restorative and cardio tonic. It is an antioxidant that inhibits the damage of healthy cells caused by free radicals.
