Natural Remedies for Mastitis without Breastfeeding

Mastitis is an inflammation of the breast tissue which commonly affects women who are breastfeeding. It is the infection of the tissue of breast that occurs most commonly during the time of breastfeeding. If this condition is not treated timely, then it can result in pus formation.

The inflammation of breasts in women can be seen usually after 2-3 days of giving birth to the child.

What are the Home Remedies for Mastitis?

A woman whose child has died and inflammation are due to the deposition of milk in her breasts, then heat the betel leaves and bind them on the breasts for some time. This will result in the decrease of swelling and the milk deposited in the breasts also gets out but a nursing mother should not use this remedy.

1. Cumin Seeds

Grind white cumin seeds and mix this powder with alcohol. Apply this mixture on the breasts. It reduces pain and inflammation in the breasts. The mixture of powdered bishop’s weed with alcohol is also effective in reducing pain and swelling in the breasts.

2. Ajagandha Leaves

Grate the leaves of Ajagandha (Dog Mustard) plant with water and make a paste. Apply this paste on the affected areas for 2-4 hours.

3. Fenugreek Leaves

Grind green leaves of fenugreek, apply and leave this paste on the breasts for 3 hours. It helps in drying of the milk, reduces inflammation, pain etc. in the breasts.

4. Apple Plant

Grate the root of bitter apple plant (Citrullus colocynthis) in water to make a paste. By the application of this paste on breasts, swelling is reduced.

5. Dhatura Leaves

Grate the leaves of dhatura (Datura metel) with Haritaki (Terminalia chebula) and mix them together to make a paste. This paste helps in reducing pain and inflammation.

6. Shisham Leaves

Shisham Leaves (Dalbergia sissoo): Warm the shisham leaves and tie them on the breasts. Washing breasts with the decoction of shisham leaves also help in reducing inflammation.

7. Neem leaves

  • Mix dhatura and neem leaves and grind them with turmeric (Curcuma longa). Apply this paste on the breasts with the help of clean cloth. It helps in reducing pain and inflammation in the breasts. But, this remedy reduces the milk production in the breasts so this remedy should not be used by a nursing mother. When breasts are swollen, bind the warm leaves of dhatura (Datura metel) on them.

When there is more lactation and due to it, there is formation of lumps in the breasts, to reduce lactation, bind the leaves of dhatura (Datura metel).

If inflammation occurs suddenly, then it is beneficial to massage with marigold leaves. Grind the marigold leaves and apply its paste on the breasts to reduce inflammation.
